I’m joining in a very good cause today, Speaking Out against domestic violence.
This is what I know:
- It’s not cool to exhibit any form of violence against your missus. Even if you think you’re just ‘threatening’ her.
- It’s not okay to see violence and ignore it. It is your problem. It’s everyone’s problem.
- If it’s happening to you, it’s not your fault. You didn’t push someone too far. You didn’t ask for it. You didn’t wake up and think to yourself “hey I think I’d like to get abused today”. It is not your fault.
- Help is available. A help line. A women’s refuge. The neighbour you’ve waved to but never met. Just ask.
- There is also help available for men who want to change. Anger management. Counselling. Time out.
